Happy Holidays!
The Centre provides legal information and referral services to all residents of Ontario.
The Ontario Legal Information Centre (the Centre) offers a free 30-minute meeting with a lawyer to any Ontario resident or any person faced with a legal issue in Ontario.
The Centre’s services are confidential and offered virtually, in French and in English. There are no admissibility criteria and questions can involve any field of law. A person can use the services more than once depending on their needs.
The Centre is a welcoming place where you will be listened to and receive essential legal information, learn about your options and create a plan to resolve your legal issues.
The Centre’s lawyers will refer you to other relevant programs, help you better understand your rights, obligations and the legal process, and assist you in making informed decisions regarding your legal situation.
The Centre is guided by respect for diversity and gender equality. Its services are offered to everyone, without regard to gender or other factors. Its mission and mandate are founded on values of social justice, inclusivity and human rights. The Centre reaches out to vulnerable members of our society, such as low-income clients, the elderly, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, women who are victims of violence, immigrants, etc.
Since 1981, the Association of French Speaking Jurists of Ontario (AJEFO) has been dedicated to improving equal access to justice in French in Ontario.
The AJEFO provides the public with the information and tools they need to improve their knowledge of the legal system and their ability to exercise their rights in French.
The AJEFO opened the Centre on January 15, 2015. The Centre’s goal is to improve access to justice and the relationship between the public and the Ontario legal system.
The Centre was created thanks to the financial contribution of the Department of Justice of Canada as part of the Action Plan for Official Languages 22023-2028 : Protection-Promotion-Collaboration.
The Centre was created thanks to the financial contribution of the Department of Justice of Canada as part of the Action Plan for Official Languages 2023-2028 : Protection-Promotion-Collaboration.
The AJEFO also thanks the Law Foundation of Ontario and the federal government’s financial support through the Ministry of Canadian Heritage.
The Centre is a non-profit initiative made possible through funding from the Department of Justice of Canada and the Law Foundation of Ontario.
In order to continue receiving funding and thus provide its services free of charge to the population of Ontario, the Centre must disclose some statistical data to its funders. It is important to note that all data collected by the Centre is completely depersonalized before being shared, and the legal information related to your case (for instance – facts or legal questions) remain entirely confidential. An example of data that could be shared is “of the individuals using our services, 55% are women and 15% are from Northern Ontario.”
Pursuant to the above, to have a free 30-minute meeting with the Centre, you will need to complete our short and simple intake form which will be sent to you prior to your meeting. This form is required to have access to our services.
We thank you for your valuable cooperation, which ensures that our services remain available to every person in need of Ontario, entirely free of charge.
